Shortlist Services

Terms of Service

Effective date: September 16, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Shortlist Services website and, for participating contractors, our direct-mail advertising program. Shortlist Services operates out of Ontario, Canada. By using this site, submitting an inquiry, or participating in a campaign, you agree to these terms.

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms apply to two groups, with different sections below applying to each: contractors who advertise through a Shortlist Services campaign, and visitors/homeowners who browse the site, scan a QR code, call a tracking number, or submit an inquiry form.

2. What we do

Shortlist Services runs shared direct-mail campaigns in targeted neighbourhoods. Each campaign features a limited number of home-service contractors, one per category (e.g. one roofer, one landscaper), each with their own tracking phone number, QR code, landing page, and results dashboard. We are an advertising and referral service. We are not a party to, and are not responsible for, any work performed by a contractor.

3. Terms for contractors

  • Category exclusivity: we will not sell more than one advertising spot per category within the same campaign for the duration that campaign is active.
  • Pricing and payment: pricing depends on mail volume and area, and is agreed with you directly before a campaign begins. We do not currently publish fixed rates. Payment terms will be set out in that agreement.
  • Campaign commitments: mail volume, drop date, and campaign area for each campaign will be confirmed with you before it runs. We'll make reasonable efforts to meet confirmed dates but are not liable for delays caused by our printing, mailing, or other third-party vendors.
  • Cancellations: cancellation and refund terms (if any) for a specific campaign will be set out in the agreement for that campaign, since these can vary by production stage (e.g. before vs. after printing).
  • Independent business: you remain an independent business. Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint-venture relationship between you and Shortlist Services.
  • Conduct and licensing: you're responsible for holding any licenses or insurance required to perform your services, and for the accuracy of the business information you provide us to publish.

4. Terms for visitors and homeowners

  • Landing pages and tracking numbers connect you directly with an independent contractor's business. Shortlist Services does not perform home-service work, employ the contractors shown, or guarantee their availability, pricing, quality, or response time.
  • Submitting an inquiry form does not create any obligation for the contractor to respond or perform work, and does not create any contract between you and Shortlist Services.
  • Calls to a tracking number are forwarded to the relevant contractor and may be logged or recorded as described in our Privacy Policy.

5. No endorsement or guarantee

We do our best to feature reputable local contractors, but we do not warrant or guarantee the work, licensing, insurance, or conduct of any contractor featured on this site or in a mailer. Any agreement for services is strictly between you and the contractor.

6. Intellectual property

The Shortlist Services name, site design, and site content (excluding contractor-provided business information and images) belong to Shortlist Services. Contractors grant us a license to use the business name, logo, and content they provide us solely to produce and publish their mailer section, landing page, and related campaign materials.

7. Prohibited use

You agree not to misuse this site, including attempting to access it in a way that could damage, disable, or impair it, or submitting false or fraudulent information through our forms.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

This site and its content are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shortlist Services is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, a call to a tracking number, or your dealings with any contractor.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We'll update the effective date above when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated terms.
